Our summer hours will begin for Earlham (faculty, staff, students) patrons Wednesday, May 26th. If you need items from our collections prior to May 26th, please contact Jenny Freed via email.
Reference requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Acceptance of the request will depend on its size and staffing availability. Priority will be given to members of the Earlham community and members of the New Association of Friends and Indiana, Western, and Northern Yearly Meetings.
Please be aware we do charge for some services. See here for our complete list of research and digitization fees. Please let us know if you are an alumnus of the college or affiliated with one of our partner yearly meetings.
If it is a large or time-consuming research or digitization request, we may ask you to contact us again in the future. We cannot accommodate large requests at this time.
Patrons are expected to follow all campus safety protocols during their visit. This includes, but is not limted to, wearing masks and social distancing.
Beginning Wednesday, May 26th, we will be open on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 1:00-4:00 for people with an Earlham ID to check out books from our collections. People who would like to read the journals or the non-circulating books in our open stacks may also do so during that time.
Archival Materials and Rare Books:
Archival materials and books housed in our vault will be available by appointment only. If you would like to use materials in our archival or rare book collections, please email Jenny Freed to set up an appointment time.
We will open to members of the public beginning the week of June 7th, 2021.
Planning your visit:
1. Contact Jenny Freed via email to set up an appointment for your visit. Only people with an appointment that has been set up and approved by Jenny will be allowed into Lilly Library and the Archive.
2. Once your appointment time has been set up and approved, please send Jenny a complete list of archival materials you would like to review during your visit. We will have your research materials pulled and waiting for you. (We will not pull archival materials during your visit, so please plan accordingly.) You will be able to browse and pull materials from our open stacks.
3. Once you arrive on campus, please call 765-983-1743. Jenny will meet you on the Lilly Library porch. You will be expected to show PROOF OF VACCINATION and be wearing a face mask. You will not be allowed into the building without these two items.
4. Once you enter the building, you will be escorted down to the archive and directed to your research space. You must stay in your assigned space for the duration of your visit with us, except when you browse the shelves or use the restroom, and follow campus safety protocols. These include but are not limited to wearing a face mask for the entirely of your visit and practicing social distancing.
