You are required to identify and apply a theoretical framework to your work on your thesis. As you thoroughly review the literature surrounding your topic, you will come across concepts and theories that are relevant to your own research. Together, these theories can be imagined as building upon each other, forming a structure or framework that you will use to approach your own research.
