Biography

Education 

After Earlham, Ramsey pursued his MD at Indiana University School of Medicine and graduated in 2000. To solidify his education, Ramsey attended Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons to become a psychiatrist. He graduated from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2004. 

Throughout Ramsey's career, he has strongly advocated for the importance of nutrition and mental health. Therefore, pursuing a career in the field of nutritional psychiatry best fit him. He enjoyed how his career allowed him to explore the impact of diet and nutrient deficiencies on brain health and mental wellbeing. Ramsey specifically advocates for how a healthy diet can treat depression and anxiety.

In addition to his clinical work, Rasmey has written several books on the subject of nutrition and mental health. Some of his notable works include The Happiness Diet: A Nutritional Prescription for a Sharp Brain, Balanced Mood, and Lean, Energized Body and Eat Complete: The 21 Nutrients That Fuel Brainpower, Boost Weight Loss, and Transform Your Health.

Ramsey is also involved in farming and is the co-owner of an 127-acre organic farm in Indiana. Ramsey recognizes the importance of connecting healthy soil, nutrient-rich food, and mental wellbeing.

Current work 

  • Serves as the Council of Communications Chairman at The American Psychiatric Association. Ramsey is also a co-creator of The Brain Food Scale and co-founder of National Kale Day. 
  • Creates various workshops to use at a national level. Ramsey had recently spoken at and led these workshops for TEDx talks BrainFork and Brain Farmacy on food and brain health.
  • Ramsey spends most of his time teaching in the Columbia University Adult Psychiatry Residency program. Ramsey also supervises Psychiatric evaluations. According to Rasmey's Linkedin, he also serves as a thesis mentor for graduate students at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Ramsey's work has been published and featured by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, Atlantic.com, and more. Ramsey’s work has had such a huge impact on the food and mental health industry that NPR has named him a “Kale Evangelist.”
