Library eResources are available to users from the campus community who are currently off-campus. To access our Databases, please use the links on our A-Z database list, and enter your Earlham College username (without @earlham.edu; no capital letters) and password when prompted. If you have problems accessing any of our databases or other eResources, please check our page on Off-Campus connection help or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can continue to access other eResources (ebooks, electronic journals/articles, etc.) through the library catalog or the Journal Title Advanced search. Some providers are making more of their resources freely accessible during this time. Those items have been included in our A-Z database list or added to the library catalog for ease of access.
VitalSource Helps, provided by eCampus, is also providing free access to electronic versions of some textbooks. Users have to first create an account using their student email address (.edu) if they don't already have one. To learn more, click here.
RedShelf is also providing free access to up to 7 textbooks per student through May 25th.
Streaming films can be accessed by the campus community through the library catalog, or by going directly to Kanopy or Theatre in Video. Earlham can also obtain streaming films through Swank Digital Campus: contact email@example.com for assistance. Due to copyright, we do not rip library DVDs to post online. If no Earlham options are available, students may have to use personal Amazon, Hulu, or Netflix memberships they might already have access to, or pay less than $5 to rent a title from a commercial provider (e.g. Amazon iTunes, Google Play, etc.). Faculty are encouraged to be flexible.
If you need research help or other assistance from Librarians, please see our Research Help guide to contact librarians via email or chat or schedule an appointment.
Access to existing guides for Spring Semester classes is still provided through the library web pages.
Finally, Library Subject guides are also still available for reference.
Lilly Library continues to be closed to ALL users.
This closure will continue for an unspecified period of time.
At this time, all other library branches are also closed.
For more details, see our Hours page
If you are seeking information on moving your courses online, please see the course continuity guide.
If you need to coordinate with library staff regarding the purchase of ebooks, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Scanning services cannot be provided at this time.
Items that are currently checked out to users (including reserves) will have their due dates changed by library staff. You should receive an email with your new due date once these changes have been processed. This will take a few days; please ignore any overdue notices in the interim.
If you have a PALShare item that is due soon, the due date will be extended. For now, please ignore any overdue notices as schools catch up on renewals. If you have concerns, please email email@example.com and we can contact the library for you and help expedite the renewal process.
Earlham and Seminaries students, faculty and staff will have due dates extended to early September.
Graduating seniors will have due dates extended to June 30 (longer if needed).
Community members will have their loan periods extended to May 15 (longer if necessary) and overdue fees will not apply.
In all cases, please contact us if you need an extended due date or are unable to return library materials.
At this time most users are not on or able to come to campus. Please do not worry about returning materials for the time being. We provide the information below as reference for a future time when users are once again permitted on campus:
Materials may be returned to Lilly Library via the drop slot (to the left of the main doors to Lilly Library).
Users who are off-campus may return items by mail if desired (mail to: Lilly Library 801 National Road West Richmond IN 47374). If you have questions or concerns about returning library materials, or are unable to return items for any reason, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Items in all library collections are not available for check out during this closure.
Please see the InterLibrary Loan updates section of this page (below) for updates on ILL services.
We are currently working with faculty who have print materials on reserve for Spring semester to determine which materials should be made available electronically. Where possible, ebooks will be purchased to cover content. If that is not possible, library staff will work with faculty to provide alternatives.
NOTICE TO ALL USERS: Due to the COVID-19 related closure of Earlham College, the Libraries continue to be unable to provide ILL services. Currently we do not know when the campus will reopen for regular operations. Until such a time, the following statements remain in effect:
Updates on InterLibrary Loan services will be posted here as developments occur.
Thank you for your patience as we do our best to serve you during this challenging time.
Upcoming changes in InterLibrary Loan:
While ILL services are down, our staff are working to implement new InterLibrary Loan software that will replace ILLiad. This new software will allow integration of our ILL services with our current circulation system, and users will eventually be able to see all of their circulation and interlibrary loan activity in the same interface. When ILL services return, it will be in this new system. We will provide more information about the new system on this page soon. We should be able to resume ILL services in this new system later this summer.
