Details of Academic Text Book on reserve project

This initiative aims to increase accessibility to textbooks for our students specifically in courses which require books with high costs.

  1. Each science department has been allocated $400 for this project each semester. (See below for important considerations)
  2. Each science department makes a decision of which class(es) they’d like for us to allocate the money towards purchasing books and how many books within the parameters.
  3. The convenor from each department (or administrative assistant) will submit via email a detail list of the books (Complete Title, Author, Year, Time to be on reserve, Class name, etc)  to Library Manager (cc José) within the timeframe outlined in the "submission timeline" box left for each semester.
  4. Departments will also need to share if they would like to have the book on reserve as a hard copy or an electronic copy. (See below for important considerations)
  5. As soon as we receive the complete list from your department convenor (or administrative assistant), the  Library Manager will work with the EC Bookstore to purchase the appropriate text book for your class.

IMPORTANT Considerations

  • Not all funds used. If a department has not used all their funds, these funds will be offered to other departments for their use unless other arrangements have been made with the Director of the Science and Technology Commons.
  • Electronic copies vs. Hard copies. We will try to get an electronic copy through our two current vendors (ebrary and JSTOR). If this option is not available, we will purchase the hard copy.)
  • Collection development. Please note that the book on reserve project monies is to be used to buy text books/ reference books that will be put on reserve for your entire class.
